In times past the Scots worked over the Christmas period therefore their first major holiday of the year was that of which took place on January 1st. The tradition of Hogmanay became more important than the Christmas holiday. Both the 1st and 2nd of January are public holidays in Scotland.
Wednesday 30th December 2009 We depart London from Bressenden Place near Victoria Underground Station at 07.00 and travel up to Scotland. After checking into the Hotel we will make our way into Edinburgh. You will be able to enjoy the festivities of the “Night Afore” between 20.00 and 23.00 along George Street (free).
Thursday 31st December 2009 A lazy morning with a whole day to enjoy the sights of Edinburgh. All major attractions will be open today. As the night goes on the atmosphere builds as do the crowds for what is now the worlds largest street party. The street party starts this evening with numerous bands and street entertainers performing around the city centre. The New Year is greeted with a massive firework display and the party goes on ... Well operate shuttles back to the hotel into the wee hours.
Friday 1st January 2010 After a well deserved lie in and a leisurely breakfast you can take an optional tour to Stirling Castle. Stirling Castle is one of Scotlands grandest castles due to its imposing position and impressive architecture. The castle’s long and turbulent history is associated with great figures from Scotland’s past, such as William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. Entry cost is not included and will be £8.50. You will be able to discover more about the history of Scotland on a guided tour.
Saturday 2nd January 2010 A relaxed start to the day. A leisurely breakfast before we depart the hotel. Heading away at midday we start our return journey to London. We aim to be back in London no later than 23.00.
Accommodation is based in twin or double rooms at the Holiday Inn at Livingston. All rooms are en suite with colour TV, tea/coffee. A buffet continental breakfast is included. Travelling time from the hotel to Edinburgh city centre is approx. 35 minutes. We double-man the coaches therefore we can operate shuttles between city centre and hotel late into the night / early morning.
