STOP SMOKING

The habit of a lifetime has gone up in a puff of smoke for an elderly Cambridgeshire couple.
For Graham (53) and Enid (52) Rawlings. have kicked their smoking habit of 30-a-day each, after almost 50 years.
And turning over their new leaf is set to save the couple over £4,000 a year.
After years of trying in vain to give up, the couple, who have been married for 40 years, had almost given up hope.
“I’d been prescribed Zyban by my doctor and that didn''t work and my willpower didn''t work either,” said Enid, who began smoking at 14.
But then the pair heard about the ''Stop Smoking Laser Therapy Programme'', which stopped them smoking both in only an hour.
“It''s amazing,” said Enid, who suffers from chronic asthma.
“''Not only is there a noticeable improvement in my breathing, but an improvement in our finances as well!”
And Graham, who started smoking at 15 years-old, said “I can taste food better and we can afford to buy a new car and go on more holidays”.
The treatment, which was administered by therapist Julie McGowan, has been available in the area since 1997, when Julie brought it to Peterborough from Scotland.
The therapy works by applying a painless laser light to various pressure points around the body.
The laser releases endorphin, which is the same chemical which is released by nicotine.
Thus, by creating a naturally high feeling of well-being, the craving for another cigarette is dramatically reduced.
Graham, who was treated on October 9, said: “I just felt very relaxed - almost as if I was floating.”
And although the programme is made up of one, one hour session and two 20 minute booster sessions over a week-and-a-half, Graham and Enid, who was treated on October 22, stopped smoking after only an hour.
Said Graham: “! went to the first session and left some cigarettes in my car. Afterwards I took the cigarettes home and put them in a draw, where they have been ever since.”
Julie, who also provides treatment at clinics in Peterborough, Spalding, Stamford, Wisbech and Market Deeping, said: “A course of treatment costs £90 , but in just over a week or two of stopping smoking, you''ve already paid for it with the money you''ve saved”.
“Thousands have stopped smoking thanks to the programme”. She also said “that statistics from NHS funded studies have revealed the Laser Therapy Programme as one of the most effective methods available for stopping smoking”.
