Those who worked in general medical and surgical hospitals earned the most, with a median annual income of $29,720. Those who worked in the offices of health practitioners other than physicians, outpatient care centers and colleges and universities earned the least with a median annual income of $25,240.
Yet another reason why to become a medical assistant is the fact that you can launch a career in this field after completing a relatively short training period. In fact, no state requires completing any type of formal training, but most employers prefer hiring those who have earned a diploma, certificate or a degree in the field. Programs resulting in a diploma or certificate typically take one year or less to complete, while degree programs generally take about two years to complete.
